FAQ's

What are the material groups for the standard line of valves?

The carbon steel (C22) valves are material group 1.1 and the stainless steel (S44) valves are material group 2.2 for cast valves and 2.3 for forged valves.

What are the trim numbers for the standard line of valves?

Forged Valves (1/2"-2")

The carbon steel (C22) valves are trim #8 and the stainless steel (S44) and NACE (C22) valves are trim #16.

Cast Valves (>2")

The carbon steel (C22) valves are trim #8 and the stainless steel (S44) valves are trim #10.

Why were the trim numbers selected?

The carbon steel (C22) valves are trim #8 because it has been found that the hard 13Cr (420 SS; HRC: 42-50) against the softer Co-CrA (Stellite; HRC: 37-42) provides a better sealing and longer life than matching like materials.  The smaller forged stainless steel (S44) valves are trim #16 because Co-CrA (Stellite; HRC: 37-42) has superior corrosion resistance to match the needs of a stainless steel valve.  The larger cast stainless steel (S44) valves are trim #10 because stainless steel seats hold up adequately in the larger valves.

How can the sealing capabilities of the metal to metal valve seats be improved?

The sealing capabilities of a Globe Valve may be improved with a soft seat (Teflon, Kel-F, Vespel, UHMWPE, etc.) attached to the Stem matched against a hard face on the Valve Body.
